This reconciliation will occur by empowering our members with the ability to gain control over their life controlling problems by a renewing of their minds and transforming their lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

Dr. Calvin Avant is a native of Pensacola, Florida and is a product of the Escambia County Public School System. Dr. Avant is a veteran of the U. S. Navy. His academic accomplishments are a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of West Florida, Masters of Arts in Management and Leadership from Webster University and a PhD in Ministry of Psychology from Faith Bible Theological Seminary. Dr. Avant left Pensacola and relocated to the Washington, DC metropolitan area in 1979. He resided in the Washington, DC area until 1995. In 1995 Dr. Avant and his wife Jolene and daughter Amy relocated to Brevard County, Florida (Space Coast).  In 2001, Dr. Avant’s wife, Jolene passed suddenly of an aneurysm and Dr. Avant then returned to his home in Pensacola.

Dr. Avant has owned and operated a training firm for over 30 years. He is a Certified State of Florida School Teacher, Certified After Care Specialist, Certified Parent Instructor, Licensed Addiction Counselor, a State Endorse for Prison Ministry Training, and a National Validator for Before and After Schools Programs. Dr. Avant has authored several books such as “So You Are Raising a Knucklehead”, “Reinvent Yourself with Dr. Calvin Avant”, Y.E.S. PROGRAM: Youth Exposed To Success’ - Social Skill Curriculum, Elementary School Edition, T.A.B.S. Teens Altering Behavior of Self Social Skill Curriculum, Adolescents Edition  ”, and “It’s Just Prison - Telling Teen The Real Deal”.  Dr. Avant is the Founder and Pastor of Unity In the Family Ministry located here in Pensacola, Florida.

Our mission remains to present the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the source of LOVE, HOPE and Transformation from life controlling problems. "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13). 

Dr. Avant continues to teach an 8-week Parenting Class to the male inmates with the focus on parenting at-risk youth of all ages. This parenting curriculum s title "So You Are Raising A Knuckle Head, Steps To Success.” This is a guide to parenting the at-risk child. The curricu1um emphasizes the modeling and teaching both personal and social skills, which includes - decision making, refusal and resistance, communication, & assertiveness He also teaches a 7-week Behavior Modification Course through his Unity in the Family Ministry. This program is entitled Teen Altering Behavior of Self or he T.A.B.S Program. It is conducted at the Escambia County Jail. This is a behavior modification classes for Juveniles who has been adjudicated as adults and are housed in the County Jail.
