Reflections of a Righteous Life
A new life took its first breath on September 02, 1923 in Pensacola, Florida. This opened the book of life for Ollie D Sunday, the youngest child of the late Amy and Frank Sunday Sr. Ollie accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church. Where she enjoyed singing in the Senior Choir. She was a dedicated and faithful member for over 7 decades. She then joined Unity In The Family Ministry in 2004 to fellowship with her sons who serve as Pastors.
In 1946, Ollie united in marriage to Lee Mason Avant Sr. and they remained faithful to each other until his death in 1974. There loving union was blessed with 5 children. Ollie D was devoted to her family and her community, she was the neighborhood MOM. Ollie was employed with the Escambia County Civil Service retiring with over 20 years from University Hospital as a seamstress. She was a member of CB Nelson Daniel Chapter #172B, order of the Eastern Star where she served for many years as Conductress and Instructor.
On Thursday, April 23, 2009 an angel was dispatched to Ollie’s bedside, spoke softly to her and said, “Come unto me and I will give you rest.” She joyously accepted the call and made her heavenly transition closing her life’s book. Her Life and Legacy will live on forever in the hearts of her devoted children; Lee Mason Jr., Calvin, Norma Jeane and Janet Faye. Sister: Margarete Card who recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Daughter-In-Laws; Karen and Patricia Avant. Grand Children; Leslie, Karmen, Nichole, DerRick, Demetrius, and Amy. Great Grand Children; Ivory, Cory, Kyle, Khamari, Jaylyn, Samari, Shackaris and Kiristyn. She also served as surrogate mother to DeWayne King, George Card, Kim Green and a host of other family members and friends.
Ollie D Avant lived a righteous and fulfilling life, she touched the hearts of so many people. She’s the heart of our family, Her spirit has helped us and so many others thrive and grow. She has made us strong. Her caring has made us so proud to belong. Her humor delighted us and her love is the bond that forever unites us. She’s our center of balance, our energy source, she’s our inspiration, our mother, grandmother and great grand mother, Ollie D Avant.
